Communication

At Manuden Primary School, we believe that strong, open communication is at the heart of a thriving school community. Our vision underpins everything we do—including how we work in partnership with parents and carers to support every child’s journey.

We are committed to being transparent, approachable and responsive, ensuring that all families feel informed, listened to and involved in school life.

Our Approach

We aim to create an environment where communication is two-way—where parents feel comfortable sharing concerns, asking questions, or offering feedback, and where staff take the time to respond thoughtfully and openly.

Whether it’s celebrating good news or resolving a concern, we always believe it’s best to speak directly. If something is on your mind, please don’t sit at home worrying or discussing it with others—come and speak to us. We’re here to help.

How We Communicate

  • Fortnightly Newsletters
These include important school news, updates and highlights of recent learning and achievements. They’re a key way we keep you informed about life in school.

  • Weekly Office Update
Every week, parents either receive our Newsletter or the school office update. The school office sends an update covering key dates, upcoming events and general information to help families stay organised.

  • Compass
Our online portal, Compass, is used by class teachers to share key updates, learning news, and reminders specific to your child’s class. It’s a quick and secure way for staff to communicate with families in real time.

  • Headteacher Coffee & Questions
Once every half term, parents are invited to an informal session with the Headteacher. These provide an opportunity to ask questions, offer suggestions or simply hear about current school priorities.

  • Open Door Policy
The Headteacher and staff team are always happy to talk. We encourage all parents to get in touch directly if they have a question or concern—no matter how small. You’re welcome to email, call, or pop in for a chat.

Respecting Roles and Responsibilities

We greatly value the strong partnership we have with parents and carers, and always welcome open and respectful conversations. However, it’s important to recognise that not all decisions within school are for parental input or approval. Some matters relate to professional responsibilities, safeguarding, or the strategic vision of the school—where decisions are made in the best interests of the children as a whole.

While we will always listen and, where appropriate, explain our reasoning, some decisions may not be open to wider discussion. We ask all members of our school community to trust in our leadership, professionalism and deep commitment to what matters most: the children and their learning, development and wellbeing.

Class WhatsApp Groups

Many classes have parent-run WhatsApp groups, which can be a useful tool for sharing reminders, clarifying dates, or supporting one another with day-to-day school information. However, it’s important to remember that these groups are not monitored by school staff, and are not the right place to raise concerns or air frustrations.

We encourage all parents to use these platforms positively—to support one another, not to speculate, complain or cause unnecessary worry. If something is bothering you or you’re unsure about something, please come and speak to us directly. We're always happy to help, and it’s the quickest way to get accurate information.

Working Together

When home and school work closely together, children thrive. Our commitment to open and honest communication reflects our wider vision—to grow hearts, grow minds and grow dreams. If there's anything you'd like to ask, share or understand better, please get in touch.

Let’s keep talking.
