Eagle Owl Class is home to our ambitious and enthusiastic Year 5 and Year 6 pupils. As part of Upper Key Stage 2, this stage of education is crucial in preparing children for the transition to secondary school. In Eagle Owl Class, we focus on fostering independence, resilience, and a love of learning, ensuring every child is equipped with the skills and confidence they need for the next stage of their academic journey.

Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) Curriculum

The Year 5 and 6 curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire, encouraging children to think critically, work collaboratively, and take ownership of their learning. Key areas of focus include:

• English - Refining reading comprehension, writing techniques, and oral communication skills through diverse and engaging texts. Emphasis is placed on developing advanced grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

• Mathematics - Mastering complex concepts such as decimals, percentages, algebra, and data analysis, with a focus on problem-solving and reasoning.

• Science - Encouraging scientific enquiry and experimentation through topics such as evolution, inheritance, and the properties of materials.

• Foundation Subjects - Delving deeper into history, geography, art, design technology, music, and computing, with opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and skills.

• Languages - Continuing French studies to enhance cultural understanding and communication skills.

Preparing for Secondary School

In Eagle Owl Class, we place a strong emphasis on preparing children for the transition to secondary school. This includes developing organisational skills, fostering self-confidence, and encouraging independent study habits. We maintain close links with local secondary schools to ensure a smooth transition, offering opportunities for pupils to visit, meet staff, and engage in collaborative projects.

As the oldest pupils in the school, children in Eagle Owl Class are encouraged to take on leadership roles, acting as role models for younger pupils and contributing to the wider school community. This helps to build confidence, empathy, and a sense of responsibility.
