Our Approach to SEND and Inclusion
At Manuden Primary School, we believe that every child should feel valued, included and able to achieve their best.
We are committed to identifying children’s needs as early as possible and providing appropriate support so that they can participate fully in school life and make good progress.
High-quality teaching is the starting point for meeting the needs of all pupils. Where a child requires additional support, we use a graduated approach based on Assess, Plan, Do and Review. This enables us to identify needs, plan appropriate provision, review its impact and make changes where necessary.
We recognise that SEND is a whole-school responsibility. Teachers, support staff, the SENCO and school leaders work together to ensure that provision is inclusive, purposeful and responsive to individual children.
We work closely with parents and carers and, where appropriate, with professionals from education, health and social care. Children’s views are also an important part of planning and reviewing their support.
Working with Families
We believe that strong partnerships with families are essential.
Parents and carers are encouraged to speak to their child’s class teacher in the first instance if they have concerns about their child’s learning, development or wellbeing. The SENCO can provide further advice and support where needed.
Families are involved in decisions about SEND provision and in reviewing the progress and support of their child.

Essex Local Offer
The Essex Local Offer provides information about education, health and care services and other support available to children and young people aged 0 to 25 with special educational needs and disabilities.
Essex SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS)
SENDIASS provides free, confidential and impartial information, advice and support to children and young people with SEND and their parents and carers.
