Tawny Owl Class

Welcome to Tawny Owl Class

Tawny Owl Class is home to our enthusiastic Year 2 learners, where we focus on building confidence, independence, and a deeper understanding of key skills. As part of Upper Key Stage 1, Tawny Owl Class provides a stimulating and engaging environment designed to support children as they prepare for the transition to Key Stage 2.

Upper Key Stage 1 (KS1) Curriculum

The Year 2 curriculum builds on the foundations laid in earlier years, with a strong emphasis on consolidating core skills and developing new ones. Our approach is hands-on, creative, and tailored to the needs of each child. Key areas of focus include:

  • English - Enhancing reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills. Children explore a range of texts and develop their grammar, punctuation, and spelling knowledge.

  • Mathematics - Building confidence in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, alongside problem-solving and reasoning skills.

  • Science - Encouraging scientific enquiry and curiosity through topics like living things, habitats, and materials.

  • Foundation Subjects - Expanding knowledge in history, geography, art, design technology, music, and computing, with a focus on making learning meaningful and exciting.

Nurturing Growth and Independence

In Tawny Owl Class, we foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where every child is encouraged to take on new challenges and celebrate their achievements. We focus on building resilience, collaboration, and a positive attitude toward learning. Children are given opportunities to develop their independence while still feeling guided and cared for by our experienced staff.

Year 2 is an important stage in your child’s education, and in Tawny Owl Class, we ensure they are well-prepared for the next steps in their learning journey. Reading Together at Home

We encourage all families to share books regularly, whether that means reading a bedtime story, visiting the local library or enjoying a favourite book together.

Children do not need to read every book on these lists. They are simply a wonderful starting point for discovering new favourites.

Happy reading from everyone in Tawny Owl Class!
