No Outsiders
At Manuden Primary School, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment that aligns with our vision of "Growing hearts, Growing minds, Growing dreams." We believe in the importance of equality and ensuring that every child has access to the same opportunities. This commitment is modelled by our staff and woven throughout our lessons and experiences, both explicitly and discreetly. One key area where this is embedded is within our Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum.
As part of our PSHE curriculum, we follow the No Outsiders scheme, created by Andrew Moffat MBE, a nominee for the Global Teacher Prize in 2018-19. No Outsiders promotes three core values: respect for diversity, community cohesion, and the promotion of dialogue to counter fear and hate. These values reflect our vision of nurturing a community where every child feels accepted and valued, allowing them to grow in confidence and understanding.
Through the No Outsiders scheme, we teach children about the seven protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010—age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, gender, and sexual orientation—using age-appropriate storybooks. This approach helps us foster a culture of inclusivity, where children learn to respect one another’s differences and engage in open dialogue. By embracing diversity and promoting understanding, we help prepare our pupils for the future, equipping them with the tools they need to navigate modern Britain with respect and empathy.
At Manuden Primary School, we strive to create a consistent message across the school community: there are no outsiders here, everyone is different, and we celebrate these differences. We are all equal, and by respecting one another, we build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and positive relationships. We work closely with families, parents, and carers to deliver this message, ensuring that every child is part of a community where they can grow, thrive, and dream big.
At Manuden Primary School, there are no outsiders - Everyone is welcome!
